Anise is a popular beverage in many Mediterranean countries, and often has different names. Anise is an alcoholic drink affiliated to the aniseed family. The origins of its name are disputed, however, the Greek word for grape  is üzüm, which may have led to the name ouzo. Anis is usually drunk with ice or water, which dilutes the alcohol content, and gives it a milky hue.
